Parenting Sessions for the South Asian Community in York Region Woodbridge September 9, 2007: Punjabi Community Health centre (PCHC) and Human Endeavour are working together to strengthen the South Asian families. South Asian parents are faced with the unique challenges of adjusting to the new culture and at the same time protecting their own values in the upbringing of their children. To help the parents and kids, PCHC has started delivering parenting sessions in York Region. 1st session was held on September 9, 2007 in Woodbridge, it was a great start and around 40 parents and kids participated in the program. These sessions will regularly takes place in Vellore Village Community Centre on every 2nd Sunday of each month. Parents appreciated the efforts of PCHC and Human Endeavour to help them in dealing with the parenting challenges. Baldev Mutta Executive Director of Human Endeavour delivered the session. Parenting Session aims at: 1. Addressing parenting in the perspective of South Asian culture 2. Teaching skills and knowledge to parents 3. Increasing the confidence of parents 4. Setting rules, limits and consequences 5. Teaching the importance of family and parents to kids 6. Improving the quality of family life 7. Protecting the South Asian family unit
