Seniors Play It Now (SPIN)
Vellore Village Community Centre once again became alive to the sounds of music, dancing and laughter from the diverse groups that had gathered to perform in the competition for selection of “Seniors Idol and other top groups”
SPIN (an event under SIPA - Seniors Initiative of Performing Arts) was held on March 28th 2010 at Vellore Village Community Centre and was attended by 500 plus multicultural seniors from Brampton, Maple, Markham, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Toronto, and Woodbridge. The program consisted of performances from the Chinese, Italian, Indian, Punjabi, Tamil, Hispanic, Cambodian and Gujarati seniors.
“Seniors Play It Now” (SPIN) celebrated the talent of multicultural seniors who demonstrated it through yoga, music, singing and dancing. The vibrant and energetic performances of seniors made all the participants of the event respond by joining in the liveliness.
This was the fourth event of its kind arranged by Human Endeavour for promoting the talent of seniors. A new spirit of competition was added to the event by making it a contest for selecting ‘Seniors Idol Group’ for best performance. Judges were representative of all communities and rated seniors for their efforts. Championship trophies were awarded to the three top groups: Thornhill Senior Citizens Group for Gold, Coro Italia for Silver, Tamil Seniors for Bronze. Recognition plaques for participation were given to all participating groups.
Morris Jesion and Mohini Sareen were given leadership awards for their outstanding contributions to the senior community.
SIPA project is funded in part by the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program and is supported by many multicultural seniors groups and organizations.
